LRT Media Monitoring

Coming soon we’ll expand our coverage to include broader transportation projects such as highways, bus rapid transit, active transportation, and other large-scale infrastructure builds.

LRT in Canada: By the Numbers

data compiled and accurate as of July 2025.

*If half of all new transit riders switched from personal vehicles, an estimated 2.35 million metric tonnes of CO₂ could be avoided each year. This estimate is based on average vehicle emissions of 250 grams of CO₂ per kilometre using Canadian fleet data. With about 940 million riders taking a 10 kilometre trip, that results in 9.4 billion kilometres not driven. Multiplied by the emissions rate, this equals more than two trillion grams or 2.35 million tonnes of carbon dioxide no longer released into the atmosphere each year.
